Since I'm on break and have alot of creative juices flowing I thought I'd write a story I've been trying to get to lately, was probably going to be my submission for the CM Teamwork challenge that one time I signed up for it but because of several circumstances in the challenge I never did this story. So here it is, Remnants I would give summary of the Story here but I don't want to Spoil it, lets just say its a Modern day Fantasy if that helps, probably not though.

Entry 1

The Sun beat down heavily upon the rough sands, and the winds tossed up the mounds across the plains of the great desert. Resting in the center of these barren fields was a small little town, made up of small clay buildings clustered around the only Oasis for miles. The city was known as Ezoser, and stood at the crossroads for any bold adventurer or trader wishing to move through the boundless wastelands that populated this plane of existence.

Resting upon a small flight of stone steps sat a girl garbed in a long violet tunic tied together by a hide belt. Under it she wore a White linen undershirt and pair of black pants that cut off just at the knee. Clicking together her high leather boots and stretching her arms out across the steps she mumbled a few things to herself as several other people passed by giving her odd looks. Time continued to pass as she waited on the steps, before eventually she leaped up from them and threw her arms up into the air and shouted “Where is He?!”

Several passersby gave this no mind as if it was a regular occurrence in this town, but one man rose up his arm and tapped her on the back of her shoulder. The pressure of the man’s iron gauntlet caused the girl the instantly jump around to face him. He was a tall figure roughly six feet and wearing silver armor laced with traces of gold and blue which complimented his long blond hair as well as an azure blue cape which floated just off the ground by an inch or two. He carried no weapon or shield, not even a helm.

“What took you so long?” the girl asked with a giggle, “I was collecting an ally” he responded. Another man just a few inches shorter than the Knight stood behind him. The other man had spiky auburn hair and stubble across his face, he wore leather closed vest over a black shirt and some thick hide covered pauldrons and bracers. Across his chest was a strap binding a quiver of arrows to his back over a dark green cloak which was tattered at the edges. “Who’s this Sir Brac?” the girl questioned as she inspected the newcomer closely. “This is a friend of mine dear maiden; he is known as Hawke and has seen many encounters with the forces of darkness.” The Knight replied stepping off to the side so that the girl could get and better view of his companion.

“I thought you had contacted me to explore the mountains Brac, not to waste my time introducing me to people you’ve white knighted,” Hawke scowled, “I could have completed a solo quest by now.” Hawke turned around to leave but before he could take more than a step Brac grabbed him by the back of his cloak. “Who said I wasn’t going off to explore those mountains Hawke, I was simply introducing you to our third companion for this adventure.” Brac spun Hawke around so he could properly introduce the two, “This is Melinas, she and I had excavated the ruins of the Lost King together, I figure she could help us out.” Melinas took a small bow before reaching out her hand to shake Hawke’s, but the Archer seemed to have no interest in making friends. “Yeah right, I bet Brac carried you through those ruins, do you even have skill with a weapon?” “I’ll have you know I’m quite skilled with a staff!” retorted Melinas. “Great another caster.” Quipped Hawke as he rolled his eyes. “Would you two stop bickering,” Shouted Brac as he tried to diffuse the situation, “Come on Hawke do you really think we could explore the entire mountains without a caster?

Before Hawke could response to Brac’s question a ring buzzed out from the knight, “Hold on I got a message from a friend. It’s from Cuinn; he’s waiting for us at the mountain’s gate. Now if you two are done fighting I’ll invite you to the group and we can get this train wreck moving, Okay? The archer and caster stared each other down for moment before ultimately letting out a sigh of defeat and agreeing to Sir Brac’s request. “Alright then, that wasn't to hard now was it?” laughed Brac as he pulled out a small gem and held it up to the sky, he rotated a few times before it began to glow bright green and they dematerialized from the small little desert town.

A second entry to my tale, this one is a bit shorter but introduces the fourth character

Entry 2

A thick cover of clouds blew past several tall ice capped mountains and cliff sides. Upon one of these stone giants a small green light gives off a twinkle, as the three materialize on to the mountainside. Brac pockets his small gem and takes in his surroundings. Off in the distance he spies several mountain peaks poking out of the fog and he seems to have teleported into a small mountainous garden. A rice paddy or two take up the bulk of the area, with a dirt path running between them. The three follow the path a ways before coming to a bright red gateway. Sitting in front of the gate is a man roughly five and a half feet in height, with a head vacant of any hair except on his face where he sported a goatee and thin mustache. The man wore a long white robe trimmed with pieces of blue and a golden cross weaved onto the chest. As the three drew close to the priest a small blue box leaped out of his head.

“Your finally here, Brac”

Melinas was taken aback by this, rarely did she anyone use the text speech function, but the others treated this as standard. “Sorry Master Cuinn, finding Hawke took longer than I expected.” replied Sir Brac. The archer scoffed at this statement, “I told you yesterday that I had to gather materials.” The two went back in forth a bit before the young caster spoke out. “So is your Mic broken or something?” Melinas asked. The others became silent; they never dared ask Cuinn why he only spoke in text. The silence continued for a few seconds as Cuinn typed out a response.

“Yes.”

Yes, a simple yes. The three were just a bit disappointed by the simplistic reply, but before Melinas could inquire further upon Cuinn’s speech pattern, Brac interrupted. “Now Now Melinas, we can’t just sit around here all day forcing Cuinn to type message after message, besides we really should get started, Now Cuinn if you will accept my invite to our company we may begin. A small ping sang to the group as the priest’s stats appeared on their displays. With their fellowship complete they began to prepare to cross the safe line. Brac pulled out a silvery full helm that matched his armor while Melinas and Hawke pulled up their hoods and Cuinn just stood there likely tabing any important items or spells. After a few moments of preparation they stepped through the red wooden gate and truly began to explore the snow capped mountains.

It been a while and I had some free time tonight so here it is the third entry

Entry 3

The sharp glistening blade of a foreign sword gushed past Brac’s skull as the enemy moved in closer clutching his lance at his side the young knight knocked the brutal beast back with his shield before thrusting the weapon straight into the creature’s chest. The adversary was a common one in mountain fields, it sported thin plate across the chest and collar of black feathers around its neck, it had deep red flesh except around its legs which were bird-like ending in sharp talon laden feet, on its face it had a long pronounced beak and narrow eyes, their arms were long and hidden by loose sleeves but their hands had several sharp claws and clutched a weather katana. The beast let out a desperate shriek of horror before dissolving around Brac’s polearm. Its comrades responded with a rush of ferocity but were cut off by a large blaze of fire expanding in a cone from the edge of Melinas’ staff and they too met the same end. The encounter zone evaporated around them a quick tally of experience was awarded to the victorious adventurers. Brac pulled off his helm while he tapped away an award bar, “Did anyone get a good drop?” he called out to the group. Hawke shook his head, “These Tengu only drop junk” he scoffed while placing an arrow back into his quiver, “Nothing but rusted plates and broken blades, we’re lucky we got a hundred gold pieces from this battle.” Melinas closed off the window disappointed at the lackluster reward and sat down upon a nearby boulder to rest. Cuinn stood nearby idle, likely readjusting commands while waiting for the cool down to end. Brac sighed “It shouldn’t be far now, the map I purchased ends around the next corner, that’s where the boss should be awaiting us.” Hawke turned and gave the blond knight a sour look “Why are we even adventuring here if you already have a map? The Victory reward will be half as much if somebody already beat this guy.” The moody archer took a few steps forward towards Sir Brac. “Don’t tell me you just dragged me out here to grind” he moaned. Brac placed his helm back in his pack before responding, “No No of course not” he stuttered “but the interesting thing about this place isn’t in the boss room.” Hawke and Cuinn gave him a perplexed look, Melinas was just as lost but she grew more intrigued. “No the interesting thing about this mountain is a rare event that has been reported here…” Brac continued “You see back when I was at the arena the other day I was approached by a strange man he recognized my strength and told me that when his group had explored this field that they were ambushed by a group of strange monsters, when they couldn’t defeat even one member of the group they used a smokescreen to flee back to town. If we find and defeat these monsters I’m sure they’ll be a suitable reward.” The rest of the group just gawked at Sir Brac “You brought us out here for a rumor.” Yelled Hawke frustrated by the reveal. Brac retreated sheepishly as the enraged archer moved in. When a sudden hoarse laugh interrupted their confrontation, standing up on the hillside a figure loomed, shadowed by the low sun behind him, the bulky figure continued to chuckle at the conversation while a group of several lean figures joined him on the hilltop.

Had some spare time tonight and I want to get this plot done soon so I can move onto some other ideas

Entry 4

“To think we would meet again here of all places” the looming figure chuckled pulling a large great axe out from behind his back as the sun’s rays dissipated revealing he and his companions faces. The great figure was massive with large bulking muscles, he stood roughly a head between Melinas and Sir Brac, and was drabbed in the thick hide of wolves and bears he carried a large scar over his left eye which lacked any coloration. He trudged down the hillside slowly and three followed by him closely, one was dark skinned wore a feathered headdress and carried a skull tipped staff in one hand, the second was a scrawny figure with a long nose and greasy hair falling in his face under a raccoon tailed cap, the final was a girl toned well and exposing her midriff, hanging from her fur skirt was a wolf tail which accompanied the ears atop her cap. All of them were dressed like their leader with various hides and furs together they presented a menacing demeanor but the three seemed to falter to their leader’s movements. “Yahaha” The stout Wildman exclaimed once more “You actually believed the old man’s lies. I thought you were better than that Brac?”

“Who is this Brac?”

The text block bounced from Cuinn’s skull and as Brac turned to respond the scrawny peon interrupted “What this is the great Arawn, The Under King, master of Solo combat and head of Albiorix. You should kneel in the King’s –

“Nye, Enough” Arawn threw his arm out silencing his fanatic, “So Brac, we have a score to settle, How bout it?” The brute began to encircle the silent knight, Melinas began to feel at unease and suddenly blurted out “What score?” she quickly covered her mouth but it was far too late, the peons starred daggers at her before Brac broke his silence “Arawn is the current Arena champion, a couple months ago we met in a field and I –

“Attacked me when my guard was down, and I’m not going to let that action go unpunished” Arawn interrupted before flicking his index finger in a wide horizontal arc, “Now accept my challenge Brac, my guild versus your band of misfits.” A long devilish smile developed over his face as Brac’s finger hovered above the confirmation key.
